A "Compaction Analysis of Municipal Solid Waste" conducted by
CalPoly researchers used the mapping capabilities of the GeoLogic GPS
Landfill System in place at Riverview Land Preserve to measure the
compaction of their MSW waste stream. This study evaluated the efficacy
of moisture addition to waste
in a labratory and field environment, and documented significant
improvments in compaction performance where moisture was added to the
waste stream
prior to mechanical compaction. For more information, and a short
abstract on the research, visit the Global Waste Research Institute
